Stanislas Guigui

Obsessive photographer of the underworld, of rage and revolt, Stanislas Guigui is permanently moved by the desire of exploring the darkest sides of our societies. As a logical consequence of his life, in 2003, Stanislas Guigui decides to make of the Cartucho and its underworld his main photographic and cinematographic thème.

Dislocated by the armed conflict that has been gnawing off the country over 60 years thousands of Homeless have invaded the pavements of Bogota, the Colombian capital. Abandoned by their governement, whomme families sink into misery and delinquency. Right at the heart of the city and two blocks away from the Presidential Palace the « Cartucho » neighbourhood becomes their shelter. Faced with poverty and the wide spread plague of drugs this place quickly becomes a gigantic « Court of miracles » hosting more than 20.000 inhabitants. Most of them are beggars, thieves and criminals.

Stanislas Guigui spends a long period of time integrating this world of outcasts. He manages to get into one of the largest gangs of Bogota and gets protection from the getto?s big shots and from the Neros.

With his pictures, Stanislas Guigui tells us the story of the Cartucho from the Inside, with its heroes and its legends. He treats several subjects such as anger, violence, revolt, childhood, misery, self destruction and addiction to illustrate his doomsday vision of the future. This work on the lower layers of society talks about the wall created by our societies owhich sets the good citizens apart from the undesired, those who comply with the establishment from those which don?t fit in the administration?s définitions.
